Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi improve the growth and health of plants.

SYMYC Mykorrhizapilz-ProdukteWe work with AM fungi since more 15 years and offer different AM fungi (in certain mixtures) as a product-line for the private end-consumer.

AM fungi are, in the natural environment, extremely important for the vast majority (approx. 80%) of land plants. They play a very important role in the nutrition, ecology, pest- and abiotic stress resistance of land plants. AM fungi thus are basic components for the sustainable and robust productivity of plants. Unfortunately, many agricultural practices, like high fertilizer dosage and physical soil disturbance, negatively influence the functioning of the AM symbiosis. This causes a kind of vicious circl (less AM symbiosis leads to more fertilizer and pesticides needed, which leads to further suppression of AM symbiosis, ...).

To point out a most important fact :

The natural life-style of land plants since their first appearance more than 450 million years ago is the symbiosis with AM fungi. 'Since ever', plants efficiently take up nutrients and water from the soil thought AM fungi. When applying AM fungi in agricultural practice, often 10-30%, sometimes more, of (expensive) phosphorous fertilizer can be saved,  plants better stand drought conditions and other stress factors, and harvest is more robust and often higher.

Moreover the system is more eco-friendly.

Besides the AM fungi we also characterize the little studied endobacteria, which are only occurring in AM fungi. Such a detailed characterization means, that you get what you expect, very well characterised material in constantly highest quality.

The arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) is a fundamental, natural principle for the nutrition of land plants. As scientists we are convinced about its impact on future sustainable agricultural practices - and thus also on human nutrition. You can trust in our products, whether for research, horticulture, or large scale application in agriculture.

It is known, that several commercial AM fungi containing products in fact were inefficient. 'Rumors' say, that some even do not contain any AM fungi. We have performed some product comparisons in our lab, which confirmed the enourmous variability in the quality of commercial products.

We are interested in high quality products being commercialized - our own ones but also products from other producers - because only good quality products will open the markets. In close future, demand for AM fungi will get high, and high-quality material from different companies will serve different markets - if reputation of AM fungi application is not negatively influenced by inefficient products.

What are the advantages of a sterile in vitro production, when compared to classical production in greenhouses?

One factor is, that problems of co-cultivated pathogens can be excluded, which is not always the case for open systems in classical production. For classical production a strict quality control must exclude the presence  problematic microorganisms in the products. This is time consuming and expensive, and for an in vitro based production any (rare) potential contamination is easily identified during production and such containers can just be discarded. Moreover, our in vitro produced AM fungi are free of carrier materials from the production, and also of mineral fertilizer.

 Therefore, product formulation is flexible and non-specific effects can be excluded. We can, in a controlled way, combine AM fungi with specific carriers. In vitro produced AM fungi can easily be combined with other favorable microorganisms,  e.g. plant growth promoting bacteria. Formulations can be specifically designed for certain plants or practices, for example as tablets or as water soluble powder for use in vegetable-irrigation systems.
